Rare bird spotted on Dartmoor   A rare vulture has been spotted on Dartmoor, and it is the first time the bird has been seen in Britain. The bearded vulture, also known as a lammergeyer, lives on the marrow from animal bones. The bird, was reported to have been seen around the Avon Damn, and further north around the River Severn. It is thought that there are fewer than 10,000 pairs that exist in the wild, and is commonly found in high mountains in southern Europe, Africa and Tibet.   Dartmoor Walking Festival 2016 The Festival will run from Saturday 27thAugust until Sunday 4th September 2016 inclusive and will cover all areas of Dartmoor and is open to everybody of all ages and abilities. It will be very clearly marketed as ‘Dartmoor on your Doorstep’ with this chosen time of year being the last week of the summer holidays encompassing the August Bank Holiday weekend to start it off and ending in the first week of September.
