South Devon beaches retain Blue Flag status

A number of beaches in the Teignbridge area have retained their Blue Flag status, including our very own Ness Cove here in Shaldon.

The Blue Flag is only presented to beaches which fulfil the very strictest of criteria for environmental management. This includes the quality of visitor facilities and the cleanliness of the water, which means visitors to the beach can expect a high quality experience.

Speaking of the awards, the executive member for recreation and leisure for Teignbridge District Council, Cllr George Gribble, said:

“Seaside Awards for Coryton Cove, Teignmouth Town Beach and Shaldon Cove mean we can proudly provide safe, quality beaches for residents and visitors to enjoy.

"These prestigious awards will help attract visitors to our wonderful coastline and give traders, the local community and Teignbridge staff a huge boost ahead of the bank holiday weekend and busy summer season.”

Devon and Cornwall both achieved the highest number of Blue Flag beaches in the country, with eight awards each, showcasing the South West as one of the best places to come for a beach holiday.

So next time you stay in one of our South Devon holiday cottages and head out to a local beach, you can rest assured it will be of the highest high quality, family friendly and very clean!
