Watersports to do in South Devon

Water sports are fun for all the family and there are tonnes of water sports to get involved with around Teignmouth, which is close to our South Devon Holiday cottages. If you are looking for either a day of fun, or a couple days learning a new skill, this is the place to be.

Windsurfing

Whether a novice or an expert at windsurfing there are courses in Teignmouth that provide one on one tuition to help you get to grips with the sport. Teignmouth Bay has fantastic conditions for surfing, and if you are young or old, windsurfing is a fun sport to take part in.

Sailing courses

If you are looking to do a bit of sailing, there are junior, youth and adult courses in dinghy sailing for beginners, and those who are little more advanced you can take part in racing courses too. The courses are held throughout the year so whatever time you are staying in South Devon you can jump in the water!

Kayaking and canoeing

Kayaking and canoeing is a great way to spend time in the water. The area around Teignmouth Bay is a great place for either kayaking or canoeing, it’s up to you which one to do. You can do beginners courses to start you off, and take the whole day having fun with your family or friends.

Stand up paddle boarding

One of the newest crazes in water sports, stand up paddle boarding is fun, easy and a great way to spend the afternoon! Beginners are very welcome; in fact, no previous skill is required and we guarantee you will get hooked on the paddle boarding as soon as you get on the board.

Groups

If you are holidaying with a group of family and friends in South Devon, there are activity days covering a variety of water sports that everyone can get involved with from the children to adults. The sessions can be for beginners or skill-based groups and create lots of fun and bit of adventure for you holiday.

Walkies with Hedley

| 03rd December 2016 | Dog walks

Walkies with Hedley on a chilly November morning. The canal was frozen but the walk was lovely and a very festive Robin posed for the camera. The Ted Hughes Poetry Trail has been created at Stover Country Park to celebrate his poetry and long-standing links with Devon. Visitors to the Trail can read examples of Hughes’ finest poems relating to the natural world. These poems have been chosen with the help of Carol Hughes to relate to the wildlife to be seen and heard around the Country Park. The Park features sixteen specially-designed ‘poetry posts’, each displaying a poem by Ted Hughes on a theme relating to the natural world. There is also a short Children’s Poetry Trail which lets families share together some of Ted Hughes’ most memorable poems about the world of animals, some of which are illustrated by Raymond Briggs. Disabled Access, Dogs Allowed, Information Boards, Toilets, Visitor Centre, Walks, Access: Bus route available. Cycle and walk ways available. Hints and Tips: The park is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest primarily because of the dragonfly population. The best time to visit is during the summer months when the adult dragonflies are on the wing. For guests enjoying their holidays in Shaldon Devon it's approximately a 20 mins drive. Allow up to two hours to complete the full poetry trail, or follow shorter circuits to suit. ...

What a difference ...

| 25th November 2016 | beaches,blogging,feature and guide,places and travel,seaside, visual arts

What a difference a day makes. This weeks storm washed this blue motor boat up high and dry on The Ness rocks. This is what was left of the boat 24 hours later. On my way home a small crabbing trawler was heading out to a very rough sea. Brave people....
